Everything You Need to Know About Mann Sharma’s Incredible Burpee Broad Jump Marathon

Breaking Down Mann Sharma’s incredible burpee broad jump marathon

For most people, the thought of doing more than ten burpees in one go sends shivers down their spine.

But India’s Mann Sharma is not ‘most people’; he’s the world record holder for the Burpee Broad Jump Marathon.

Here’s everything you need to know about his incredible feat.

He came up with the idea in the shower

Mann Sharma was no stranger to fitness challenges, even before his marathon mission.

He’d already completed 2,021 push-ups to mark the year 2021, 2,022 handstand push-ups for 2022, and 2,023 pull-ups for 2023.

On 29 February, 2024 – leap day – he and seven friends completed a 29-hour burpee relay.

But it was a casual, slightly random thought while he was showering, which led to his marathon attempt – it wasn’t tied to any year or date.

He started with an hour of burpees twice a week

Mann Sharma’s quest started (relatively) small.

He began his burpee marathon training by doing an hour of burpee broad jumps two days a week, building up to five hours of continuous effort while he watched films on repeat to distract himself.

Eventually, he developed his endurance to the point where he completed a test challenge: 5km of burpee broad jumps in 11 hours, which Mann described as “torture”.

His broad-jump training was complemented by a gym-based strength regimen focused on building his core. He took a day off from broad jumps each week to recover with light, non-impact exercise, such as yoga, climbing, or gentle swimming.

It took him days to complete the challenge

Nine, to be precise. Mann Sharma started the challenge on 6 October, 2025, at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium in New Delhi.

He did laps of the athletics track – around 105 – doing broad jump burpees every day until he reached the marathon distance of 42.195 km (26.2 miles) on 15 October.

He improved the previous world record by almost eight times

Before Mann Sharma’s attempt, the previous world record for the distance covered by broad jumps in one go was 5.1km.

In completing the full marathon, he covered almost eight times that distance.

He tackled a kilometre at a time

Mann Sharma’s strategy throughout the challenge was to cover a kilometre at a time, which would take him about two hours. Then, he’d have a quick nap, a massage, a shower, and refuel – grabbing a light meal of chicken, pasta, rice, or salad – before starting over again.
